FAQs For First Time Massages

Massage therapists are professionals who work with all body types and focus on helping you feel relaxed. Draping techniques are used to maintain privacy and comfort, so you can relax without feeling self-conscious.

During your first massage, your therapist will ask about your health history, preferences, and any areas you'd like them to focus on or avoid. You’ll be guided on how to position yourself on the table, usually with a sheet or towel for draping.

You can wear comfortable clothing to your appointment. During the massage, you can undress to your comfort level—some people leave on their underwear, while others undress completely, but you’ll be draped with a sheet or towel at all times.

It’s up to you! Some people like to chat, while others prefer to relax quietly. You should feel free to communicate if something feels uncomfortable or if you need adjustments.

If the massage therapist is working for a company, tipping is generally appreciated but not mandatory. A standard tip is around 15-20% of the total cost, similar to other service industries.

For self-employed massage therapists, tipping is not expected unless you want to tip.

Pressure levels can be adjusted to your liking. Let your therapist know if the pressure is too light, too intense, or just right. It’s important to speak up to get the most comfortable experience.

It’s common to feel a bit sore after a massage, especially if it was deep tissue or if it’s your first time. Staying hydrated and taking a warm bath can help ease any post-massage soreness.

Most massage sessions last for 60 minutes. However, shorter (45 minutes) or longer (90 minutes) sessions are also available, depending on your needs and preferences. While not common, if you feel that you need 120 minutes and it is not on the menu, just ask if this can be accommodated.

Massages should not be painful. If you feel any discomfort, let your therapist know immediately so they can adjust their technique or pressure.

The frequency of massages depends on your personal needs, stress levels, and any specific issues you’re addressing. Some people benefit from weekly sessions, while others may go once or twice a month or as needed.

These FAQs should help ease any concerns and prepare you for a relaxing first massage experience!
